  • Win2k - Best Driver?

I know this was covered a while back, but the message seems to have disapeared off the forum.
I've been having a little problem getting OpenGL and some Direct3D games to work correctly.
Taking Baldur's Gate II as an example.
Used to be perfect in OpenGL but after updating to the latest driver release I found that starting the game in the bext possible mode simply gave me a black screen with a white 'wire-frame' outline of the menu's etc.
Apparently somebody said this was due to the later driver releases actually disabling AGP under Win2k?
Anyway, what I'm looking for is recommendation on the best drivers for Win2k & my G400MAX.
I've just got the beta for Ultima On-Line Third Dawn and as this program is going to be flakey enough by itself I really don't want to compound any problems with not so good drivers.
Seeking recommendations on best Win2k drivers and the links to go with them
    Cheers.

    Umm...

If your system uses an Intel processor, just get the latest drivers. Rumors of a "slowdown" are greatly exaggerated (under Win2k at any rate), and the whole "AGP Off" thing is limited to Athlon systems for the most part.

If you have an Athlon, however, maybe you should stick with one revision back.

Last but not least, if you have an Intel system and are still getting the wireframes, err... post in the gaming forum.

    I would still get screwed

Maybe it's just me, but I don't seem to be having that AGP off problem in my Athlon system. There are two things that I can think of that might have something to do with this. (and I am using the latest drivers)

      1. I have a KX133 system, not a KT133/a system.
      2. I'm not entirely sure I even have the VIA drivers installed. (not at home right now, can't check)

Everything is running just dandy. In fact, things have steadily been improving for me. I can actually run a 1024x768x16 in UT, where as recent as two PDesk releases ago I was unable to do this. Go figure.
At any rate, I havent' had any graphical corruption in OGL or D3D in quite some time. Can even run OGL screensavers again.
