  • IRQ & DMA for Matrox G400

Is Matrox G400 card supposed to be on IRQ 9 or higher? Umm, I did some hardware changes and noticed:

    [Conflicts/Sharing]

    IRQ 5 Creative SB Live!
IRQ 5 Matrox Millennium G400 DualHead - English
IRQ 5 IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
IRQ 5 IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
IRQ 5 Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
IRQ 10 Diamond Multimedia FirePort PCI SCSI Host Adapter
IRQ 10 IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
    IRQ 11 3Com EtherLink 10/100 PCI TX NIC (3C905B-TX)
IRQ 11 IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
IRQ 14 Primary IDE controller (dual fifo)
IRQ 14 Intel 82371AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller
IRQ 15 Secondary IDE controller (dual fifo)
IRQ 15 Intel 82371AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller

    [DMA]

    1 Creative SB16 Emulation
    2 Standard Floppy Disk Controller
    4 Direct memory access controller
    5 Creative SB16 Emulation
    0 (free)
    3 (free)
    6 (free)
    7 (free)

I don't think they're right. My machine seems to be working in 2D mode, but... Well, what do you think? IRQ 5 worries me! Thanks.

nice one dude! yes, the G400 supposidly works best on irq 9-11 without sharing its irq. I'm assuming your using win98 but what m/board?

ps best to disable sb emulation if you don't play any dos games. I see it in your dma but not in your assigned irqs, why I wonder?

True, best to put the G400 on an IRQ between 9 and 11 (included), although if your system works great with the present IRQs, why change it?

Also something to look at is the BIOS of your mobo. Go to the PnP & PCI Setup page in the BIOS and check if you have PnP OS set to No (good choice!), have assigned your SLOT1 to IRQ#9 to 11, and have PCI SLOT1 (the one next to your AGP slot) either free, or if that's no option, have a non-busmastering card in there. (Not an SBLive, a NIC or a SCSI adapter/UDMA66/100 adapter)
