  • Power Management Trouble Since 6.21 PD Installed

Since I installed the 6.21 drivers whenever Windows 98SE Power Management turns off my monitor the system will freeze with a grid pattern over part or all of the display. I removed the 6.21 drivers and reinstalled 6.10 but the problem still occurs. All BIOS power managment set to defaults. I never had this problem before.

    Any ideas?

I had a similar problem when loading PD 6.10

Try going to a DOS prompt and running

    scanreg /fix

This will restore your windows registry to the original settings

Thanks for the suggestion Grant - but scanreg /fix did not solve the problem. I also removed and reinstalled the VIA AGP drivers from safe mode and removed and reinstalled PD 6.21, still no joy.

Any other ideas out there? or do I just live without Power Management, i.e. "Always On"?

        Hi

I forgot to mention that you should also remove the " SET MGA=C\MGA\SETUP\ " in autoexec.bat

If you have win 98 you can run msconfig and then go to the startup tab and uncheck PD in the startup list.

This keeps the PD program from loading at startup. You do not need this running to use the video driver and the PD program does cause these types of problems if it is 'resident'

Also if you access PD to change video settings you have to use ctrl-alt-delete and close it after you are finished.

          Grant,

Thanks for the additional advice. However, before I saw your last post I removed 6.21 and went back to 6.04 which has eliminated the problem.

BTW I do not have a "SET MGA=C\MGA\SETUP\" line in my autoexec.bat - at least not currently with PD 6.04 - and I don't recall ever seeing that line before, unless perhaps it only is added with 6.10 and 6.21. But based on the date of my autoexec.bat file, it was not changed when I when I went back to 6.04. I am using Win98SE.
