Hank Kimble, there should be a readme text file included with the bios. read it carefully, as it tells you exactly what to do to update the card's bios.

Which BIOS for vanilla G400 - 107 or 109

Actually no, it doesn't tell you what BIOS matches what video card. I checked the readme file before I flashed my BIOS for my vanilla G400. More than likely, Hank wants to do what I wanted to do, and that was flash the video card in DOS mode.
Not knowing which BIOS to flash it with, I resorted to using the windows flash utility(yes Matrox makes one that is safe to do so). The windows flash utility choose 1.9-33 BIOS for my OEM SH 32meg G400. Works like a charm.
So, if you have a OEM SH 32Meg, choose 1.9-33. Which, according to the BIOS notes on the matrox web site is 897-19.bin. But if I were you, I'd stay on the safe side and let the windows utility flash the video bios.
I hope it helps,
PeterV
