  • Monitor cable type for G400 with high resolution monitor

I know this is a bit irrelevent here but this is the only place i can get a fair opinion.
    I'm using G400 32Mb DH running 1600x1200x32bit 85Hz on a 21" Sony monitor using a normal HD15-HD15 cable.

My question is can the image quality be improved(sharper, clearer windows image) if i use a HD15-BNC5 cable ?

    Thanks + Regards.

Yes, you will get a better image, especially at that resolution, as long as it is a quality BNC cable.
You would, however, loose any PnP/DDC communications to the monitor (not a big deal really).

To add to Kruzin's post, when using my BNC cable instead of DB15, I do not have access to all of my resolutions. I can only go as igh as 1600x1200. There are two workarounds to this. First, use DB15 to have pnp/ddc kick in(this will give you all resolutions) and then switch from db15 back to bnc, or use registry hacks to get the other resolutions. You can search on other recent BNC posts that show you how the registry hacks are done.

Sometimes the resolutions available will depend on the driver used.
PNP driver allows me resolution up to 1600 but using the driver provided by Sony i can go up to 2000+.

A HD15-BNC5 cable cost $55 (US$31) in this part of the world so i want to make sure it's worth the investment.

I'll post again to inform the results when i acquire the cable.

        Thanks for the advice.
        Regards.

I'm back to post the results.

The difference is very minor, won't notice the diff unless you really stare at one character.
I hope this test result will be useful to other users.

          Regards.
