    from 1998:

    Matrox

We've been surprised all year by the moves that Matrox has made, all the way back to before this year's E3, where they had given the now defunct Boot magazine a look at their "Voodoo2 Killer" (Boot's typically ridiculous title on their G200 first look, not Matrox's).

Now the story is taking another interesting turn, as the G200 has done well in the market place and it's time for the next progression in the line to occur. Another die-shrink and a clock boost are rumored to be in store for a possible G300 part here, adding some much needed muscle to a fine chip that deserves it.

Again, the standard 125MHz core seems like a lock here, along with some possible feature additions. Expect to see the part in Q1/99, which makes it one of the first of the "1999 .25 micron crowd" to actually debut, just like Matrox's G200 was really the first of the next generation 2D/3D chips to hit the market.

In other news from Matrox, their OpenGL ICD for the G200 is almost ready, look for it in early December. They nodded up and down in a way which Sharky Extreme took to mean "yes" when being asked if the OpenGL ICD's performance in Q2 would exceed the D3D wrapper's by 25%.

Just to releive a boring day on the forums
