The G800 will be pin-compatible with the G450. And we've spotted the name "G800" in previous drivers. Sure there will be some big changes in the core, but I don't think it will be so radical as you hope it will be.

Why throw away a good working design? Today's market demands are huge fill-rates, good DVD, high quality. T&L is a bizz word, but has to be implemented to be taken serious.

edit 14-10 (had to leave yesterday )

I think the added T&L will be the biggest change. The rest, is "just" adding a pipeline here, increasing the MHz there and do some other tweaks.

Hasn't nvidia been doing the same every time since the Riva128? And Voodoo, with their incarnations of the Voodoo graphics? (voodoo is working on a entire new design now btw) It works for them..

Developing a brand new core implies that you have to rewrite your drivers. We all now that that isn't Matrox' strong point

Actually it's too bad that most people only want "faster" instead of something else. I would like to see a radical change in the graphics market (like voxel space ) but that's not going to happen with the G800 I guess.

First I think you don't need to put your sig-file in every single line answer you give, Dr. Matrox.

Second: Read up on all the other threads about the G800 in the fori. You'll get an educated guess what we think and what the rumors are.

Third: Until we've had any feedback from Matrox, I vote for the What do you think the G800 will do threads to go unnoticed.

I know that when it shows it's (ugly) head, lots of people will be disappointed (as ever), and the rest of us will be full of joy.

Wow, Jorden, don´t be so hard, he´s only trying to start a thread ; and if I had to give my opinion, he has been really polite and educate, not like the usual stuff...
We should think twice before banning people who´s only error is to ask something that someone has already done.
Other than that, I think Matrox RULES, and it will deliver to us oh mortals the finest piece of hardware ever made

Hmmm... what did Epic use for the skeletal animation in the recent unreal tech demo?

Jorden, I think that you're right. People upgrading from a g400 will likely find the g800 (or whatever) the be an outstanding upgrade (especially if the OGL drivers keep improving). But it looks like Nvidia, 3dfx and even ATI (who'd of thunk?) will be favored by the "FPS=(some insane number)" crowd.

            Looking forward to Comdex...

Btw, there was a Powerpoint presentation about Vertex Shading and Matrix Skinning which was posted by Matrox themselves, so if they post it, they should have some hardware around that supports it, don't you think ?
