  • Advice on PowerDVD 2.55+win2k

DVD playback is just fine with winDVD (both with 1.9x bundled with my sblive and winDVD2000.
However, using PowerDVD 2.55, I got a small but anoying stutering, most noticeable on the TV output.
I slightly prefer winDVD image quality, but win2k+powerDVD=No macrovision...
Macrovision is really anoying me, because I can get only TV display trought my VCR SCART.

So, if I got perfect playback with winDVD and stutering with PowerDVD, it must be powerdvd, right?

Oh, DMA is enabled and the CPU usage is around 25-35% (Athlon 700)

    Any ideas?

PowerDVD 2.55 (build 0620) has become my personal favorite dvd software, surpassing WinDVD 2.2 as my old favorite.

The features that PowerDVD has outway the slight image quality improvement that WinDVD provides. I just wish Cyberlink would get their image quality and smoothness up to par with Intervideo one of these days...

Yes, I´m sure most of you aren´t having any problems, that´s why some settings you´re using could be helpfull.

BTW, the DVD I´m trying to play is The Matrix, don´t know if there is some special settings to use with it?

Hey, sorry to bring this back again, but I noticed that PowerDVD is NOT using overlay. That must be the cause for the stuttering. WinDVD is using overlay and plays smooth.

How to force PDVD to use overlay? Shouldn´t it be using by default?

Wow I'm getting so many chances to say this lately:

Software decoding sux! Hardware decoding r0x j00!

Yeah, yeah, that´s why G400 image quality in DVD playback is better than the Hollywood+. Give the software players a good cpu to decode and they´ll work as good as hardware solutions.

The problem is only with powerdvd, NOT with windvd wich plays smooth. But I´d like to use powerdvd because macrovision is disabled in win2k.

                  mmm...lack of macrovision...

I used the G400 for DVD for months before I got my Hollywood+. Haven't noticed any differences in image quality on a 32" TV using the S-Video input...

                  I'll have to check again.
