  • Monitor detection in w2k screwed up

I am running a G400 on w2k and have recently been using the 5.11 drivers. Today my system crashed with a garbled screen and when I rebooted, my monitor (Hyundai 7770 Dream) was listed as "(Default monitor)" in stead of the normal PnP detection. With the 5.11 drivers the system then default to max. 800x600 resolution and 256 colors. The problem is that I cannot change the monitor - the button is simply not active!

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the 5.11 drivers, but the problem remained. Now I am back to the 5.06 drivers. Here, the monitor is still listed as "(Default monitor)", but with the 5.06 drivers I can set it to any resolution I like.

Anybody know how I can get the PnP monitor detection to work again?

    Best regards,

    Bent

I've had this problem too. In my case, I had to format and reinstall Win2k. I wasted about 3 hours trying to fix it, but no go. The M$ "knowledge" base has no articles about this problem that I can find, either. Must be specific to Matrox drivers.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

    Edit: Can't spell.

Check my past post about clipping pins on the monitor wire. It may have some useful info for you...
