  • About Matrox Millennium II

    Hi

I have Matrox Millenium II Pci 4 mb graphic board. I'm receiving some
application this error message " Direct Draw error, The VGA doesn't
support Overlay capabilities". I downloaded Matrox web site
"w9x_433c.exe" and Microsoft web site "Direct X 7.0a" but
it doesn't work properly again. Please tell me what can I do?

    My system

    Pentium 200 MMX
    32 Mb SDRam
    Windows 98 Operation System

    Settings
    32 bit,1024x768 (I tried other modes)

    Thank You

    What software are you using?

BTW, the software is telling you the right thing. Millenium II doesn't have overlay support in 16-bit color mode and above with current Win9x drivers. Overlay support can be enabled in 8-bit color mode by setting "16-bit Video" in Powerdesk options. It is NOT enabled by default. However, the quality is less than accepted.

Depending on how the DirectX software is designed, certain software will switch to DirectDraw Offscreen if DirectDraw Overlay is not supported. Well, there are also software that cannot do without overlay. If your software falls in the latter category, then I would say that you'll have to be contended with the poor quality of 16-bit overlay in 8-bit color modes. Or you should consider an upgrade.
