  • My Expiriance with DVD on the G400... please read.

hey, just got my AOpen 1040Pro DVD Drive.
The only DVD Movie I own is "the Mummy" SE. (NOTE: Rachel Weisz is so sweet and beautyful...), anyway, I used the Cinemaster based Matorx DVD MAX Player tweaked by DVD Genie, (Question here, on the "More Options" tab, which "Surface Flip" to select? Overlay (g400) or Soft DeInterlace?), anyway, what really impressed me was the Sound Quality.
using my SBlive and my Four Point Surround Speakers, I got sound, which IMHO, is very close to theater sound, and since my speakers are so close to me, it might even sound better...
anyway, The Image quality was really good. REALLY GOOD. however, I did notice that there is some minor "Noise" in dark colors...
nothing major, and if you will not look for it you will not see it, but still, I wanted to know if there is a way (perhaps a DVD Genie setting) to Eliminate this.
    Thank you.
btw, one more question if I may, Do you recommend that I will replace Cinemaster [2.0.36] with WinDVD (I got OEM WinDVD 1.35) or Power DVD (I got Retail PowerDVD 2.56), do they have better Image Quality then the Cinemaster? (Which has SUPERB image qulality, but mybe I can get Superb +1... ).
    thanks!

Nice seeing a fellow Israeli around
I'v noticed the "noise" in dark areas using WinDVD in W2k. I use the originl Matrox DVD software on Win98 and the image quality is terrific.
Best thing you can do is check sites such as http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/

Cloudy, Indeed, a Pleasure to meet you!
but did not you mean IsraAlien?
So, well, "The Mymmy SE" I got is Encoded as Wide Screen, and when I use my Monitor Optical Zoom (Better Quality then the DVD Geine Software Zoom) Image Quality Suffer a little... however, I guess it's only natruel, right? and well, that "Noise" I see, is only visable when I use the Optical / Software Zoom, so probebly, it becuase of streahing the pixels.
Oh, and could some one please tell me what settings to use in DVD Geine, to get the BEST Image and 4.1 Speaker sound quality in Cinemaster?
        I thank you all.

        P.S.
Rachel Weisz is just so sweet...

As for the Surface Flip I think "software" deliveres slightly better results than the G400-setting. It might need more CPU-power as well, though.
Personally I think WinDVD has the best image-quality, but you need a good CPU (while Cinemaster is FAST even on lower-end CPUs). Unfortunately WinDVD has quite some problems with the "Matrix"-DVD - there are some scenens stuttering. It's not a CPU-related speed problem but a problem with some scenes: the stuttering is the same on my Athlon600 as it was on my Celeron450 - and the rest of the movie runs totally smooth.
PowerDVD seems to be as fast as Cinemaster but it can't reach the image quality of WinDVD.
Both, PowerDVD and WinDVD allow you to play .vob and .mpg Files from your HD (PowerDVD plays avis as well), the Cinemaster-Player doesn't support this.

It's a bit hard to make general statements if you only have one or two DVDs (I only have Matrix and a music-video DVD) as the results may vary from movie to movie.
