Make sure you are loading all the necessary drivers for your chipset.

Are you using the install utility with the drivers? Don't allow Windows to install drivers for the video card. Use the install utility.

I you already are, try the drivers with the 5.41 version of powerdesk. Matrox says that they're the most stable drivers (at least last I heard).

If this doesn't work, reset your MB BIOS settings to default. Then try updating the Video BIOS. After that, check your interupts and modify them so that the G400 has an interupt all its own at IRQ 9 or above. Keep the slot below the AGP card empty if at all possible. Next try removing all your cards except the video and work with this as a bare bones system for installation of the OS and the video drivers. Add other cards after the video works correctly. There are additional things to try, but these are the most likely ones to work, IMHO.

PS, don't try everything. Do one at a time from the top of the list down. Stop when everything is working or you smash the MB, which ever comes first.

BTW, you can always do the obvious and reinstall Win98 and then WinME over it and be happy.

I think this is a known issue with WinME. Pete Iracy in Microsoft Tech Support can probably help you out. Just send an email to him at PIracy@microsft.com describing your setup.
