You will certainly see a big difference between a 450 and an 800. Been there, done that.

Doesn't the G400 reaches his max performance with a 800Mhz CPU?

I also have a P3-450 and I'm thinking about upgrading too, I was considering a P3-700 'coz they're really cheap for the moment, But I'm only willing to buy it if will overclock 33% (from 100 to 133Mhz FSB).

      Any experiences?

I was also thinking of upgrading my other PC with a newer Celeron CPU, like a 566 and overclockin it to 100Mhz FSB.

I guess I'll first buy the celeron and see what I can do with it on my Abit BE6-2 and then put it in my old Abit BH6.

hi! Iv had a PIII450 Katmai OC to 504 via FSB 112 for about a year no problems but always around 2540 in 3Dmark2000 then I upgraded to PIII650cu & OC it to 804 via FSB 124 & wushhhhhh! 3Dmark score is now 3425 or something....well I call that a real POWER BOOST...& ofcourse waiting for the best KICK ASS card in UNIVERSE the MATROX G800 DUAL ...LoL

Mole - Get a 700E with cBo stepping and you have a good chance to hit 133 fsb (with the right peripherels). My 800E will only do 124 MHz fsb on my computer. I have trouble getting above 124 with any cpu for reasons I haven't figured out. I'm reluctant to buy stuff with only the hope that it will help.

[rant]Umm not to pick on ya, but my 3DMark scores went Way up too when I upgraded from a P2-333@434 to a P3-650E@975, and this was with a G200!! mean while my Average Frame rates only went up maybe 2-3 FPS.... 3Dmark is a Horrible benchmark to use if you only look at the final number.. what does a 3425 3Dmark system do in Q3a?? or UT? beats me, that number doesn't mean anything...
now if you quote the difference in say the Game1 bench then we got something there...sorry [/rant]

As fer getting a Boost from a P3-450 to 800Mhz there certainly a good sized performance boost, of course games and such at High Res will be unaffected like 1280x1024 and up, but below that it should improve nicely...

well ! I agree , but still it is a power boost even in UT or Q3..besides if you realy want to play 1284x1024x32 or above you must have 64mb or above on your graph.card & GF2gts or hm , hm ,hm errrr G800 FUSION or EXPLOSION or however..

You'll see a nice boost going to something like a 600e@800+. I just dngraded my 2nd PC (the one in my sig) from that to a Katmai 450@600. It's slower but I only use that box for burning, net surfing, research etc. I'm waiting for the Athlon T-birds which are said to OC real nice as well. My 600e/866 (Primary PC) uses a DDR GeForce. Great for gaming but the 2D is lousy.
