  • Can't show some videos on TV output?

How come SOME videos can't be show on TV output? For example, this hilarious 3 minutes film -- http://www.crowsnest-design.com/405/405divx_lg_v2.avi -- does not show on my TV. Other videos work. Some others one don't.

I am puzzled why this happens. Are there requirements that have to be shown on TV output?

I look forward to receiving replies soon.

If you are using DVDmax, then anything that is using overlay will get outputted. Anything blitting the video data will not.

A simple test you can do to see if your clip is using overlay or blitting can be found here:

Or, it could that this DivX encoded clip has fallen to that famous multiple of 32 issue where alot of folks can't get it out to the tv. There's a fairly long thread somewhere on this forum about it.

What are the differences between blitting and overlay?

That is interesting because I didn't know there were limitations. I thought all video clips (i.e. ASF, MPG, DAT, MOV, RM) were supposed to play on TV output.

I think Haig was referring to the thread DivX movie not passed through TV-out.

Say Ant or Jorden, Maybe that thread should be added to the FAQ.

xortam: Ooooooh, I missed that thread. Thanks!

I guess any video formats not meeting 32 thingy won't output to TV. Correct?

I get the video clip on the desknav but it still not outputting to my TV... DV files and test pattern worksfine so it is not cabling or obvious settings....

This is playing Real8 files and MPEG 2 files in 720x576.... Any thing else (avi's) play back nicely....

Staale: Are you talking about this AVI file? http://www.crowsnest-design.com/405/405divx_lg_v2.avi

antdude: Sorry I was a bit vague... No it was playing my own files....My Real8 problem was because the decoder was set to not use hw accelration... However I haven't figured out why my MPEG2 files won't play... They are encoded from DV files with Ligos LSX and a couple of freeware encoders.....
