  • Black Screen Beta??

ok people - what gives? I installed the new PD 6 and on reboot got the ole black screen - on boot up - if I go control alt delete twice - just before the machine reboots I see the desktop!!..now, i go to safe mode and reinstall 5.55 everything fine - back to safe mode and reinstall 6 beta - then get the black screen again - any ideas??

    - i removed the powerstrip on boot up and other additional programs and still get black screen - then alt del enter and see the desktop before reboot and can only go into safe mode - do i sense a conflict here??

I hate to ask the obvious, but I have to do so every time just to rule out such possibilites.

jswcpm, have you installed the latest IDE and AGP drivers from Ali? I have them mirrored on my web site here if you need them. http://w3.one.net/~dlee/ian/mp3/agp165e.wav and http://w3.one.net/~dlee/ian/mp3/v355.wav
Right click and do a save as. Rename both of them with a .exe extension instead of a .wav extension.

Beyond that, try the other suggestion first. Make sure to use the uninstaller.

Did you use the uninstaller to get rid of all traces of old drivers ?

Heh just came here to post and say I've just done that now, and it helped heaps. The new drivers actually work for me after I did that. Quake3 runs a whole lot more stably now, but with the problem I found and posted about in this other thread.

IT WORKS!!! - ok, did the deed, used uninstaller - got the right screen - used the 6.0 inf and voila - the new drivers - of course, had to reinstall 1.54 video tools - yes, my rainbow runner is working, but -- it looks like the matrox overclock 1.12 does not work - comes up with big red X thru the icon and will not run - Does this agree with you'all results - so no official matrox overclocking as of yet??.....i am going to benchmark now and will post tomorrow....

You are correct, the Matrox tweak utility does not work with PD 6.x.

Why's someone using Matrox Tweaker, while we also have MGATweak (and someone said that it does work) ..

I liked to use the matrox tweaker and doublecheck with the MGATweak - the sliding bar was easier to use - less problems 000

oh, and my MadOnion 2000 jumped 110 points to 1819 - not bad for a AMDk6III-450 at 500 with a Matrox 400 Max....
