  • Sold my G400Max and bought a Geforce2

Well it's done! I sold the G400Max after having to many problems with the drivers and lot's of compatiblity issues. Hopefully I won't regret it.

I wait till the G800 comes out. 8)

      I am another traitor.
Bored of waiting, I have bought a Geforce2.

Still waiting in the future a product (G800 ?) that can competite with Nvidia.

I miss only a little more quality of 2D images and dual monitor...everything else is 3-4 times better in Geforce2 than G400max.

Bye bye Matrox (for now, I hope).

Wow and you think that's so strange? Comparing a 4rd or what is it 5th generation card with the G400, a 2nd or 3rd generation card.

I think all is even better than your old S3 Trio64V+ card as well?

But back to business, I've seen the prices they ask for this card. A next GF will need you to be a millionaire will you be able to buy one. And the next one will be out next month orso

Who in his right mind wants to buy a videcard that costs close to 550 US Dollar? Think what you can do with that money. At least way better things than play games

        Jord.

My friends tell me that I'm lucky,
now that I'm living on my own,
and while they've never been more right,
can someone tell me when will love come home?

The G400 is still a strong contender in my book. I have a Geforce2 in a PIII 733E machine and a G400MAX in a Celermine overclocked to 800 (I use to have a PIII450 @ 600 in this system). I have seen significant scaling with the G400 with the move to 800mhz. In Unreal tournement My G400Max Kicks the Geforce2's Behind by atleast 5 frames per sec in UTbench and wicked400. The game Play in UT is smoother also. No jumping from 70-80 frames down to 25, like with my Geforce2. The G400 stays between 40-50.
So is the Geforce2 a better card, for most games I would say yes. But the G400 still has Good life in it.
          Just my 2 cents.

I have myself a Prophet 2 64mb =) The card kicks serious a$$. Purchased it for $350! Far from the $550 that you claim...

Still have my G400MAX too, which is sitting in my win2k comp. (Prophet is in the win98 se)

Dudes, different people have different needs. If someone wishes to let us know they have changed their video card, as long as it is relevant let them do so. I just chaned my cheap ATI Rage POS ($28) for a G400SH ($109) and posted it here. Jord(en), no need to defend the G400 as it has done a great job of defending itself. Plus the guys seem to appreciate their matrox cards too. Would I buy a GF-2 if I had the money? No, because I'm not a Q3 player, and having played UT on even my 450 K6-2 with the G400-SH 16 MB don't need anything faster.

Dudes (and dude-ettes)!! let us not forget about the Dual head thing with the G400. It's Very, Very nice having my puter play a DVD on my 31" TV while I surf the internet at the same time!!! GeForce can't do that one.

I also have a LeadTek GTS2. Let's face it, each card has it's own little perks.

I'm beginning to wonder where I will go for an eventual video card upgrade, now that I am addicted to dual head.

I am occasionally tempted by nVidia (for driver maturity and raw speed considerations on their newest) but I'd have to figure out the best way to have a dualhead system with it (which is tricky, or even more expensive).

I have both cards now.... not that I had planned it that way. My G400 max died with an aborted bios upgrade and, in a fit of frustration (I recently had my new hard drive die on me) I went out and spent way more than I had ever thought I would spend on a video card with the prophet ll gts. I do play Quake3 in my old age and I was always frustrated by the g400 max's problems with the via 133 chipset (abit ka7). To get the games to work, I had to cripple the card with older drivers and my frame rates droped considerably. I got a replacement g400 max and a replacement hard drive that I will put in a second system with my old msi 6167 and athlon 550. It performed very well in that motherboard, so I will get the best of both worlds. Am I happy with the prophet ll? Yes I am. I was also very happy with the g400 max, and I'll be even more happy when my credit card gets paid off.

*sigh* Admit defeat gracfully please. We all love(d) Matrox and that is why most are here. But the sad truth of the fact is Matrox doesn't love us. They made this very clear by not trying to compete. And please don't give me the "it costs too much" line. You know as well as I do if Matrox Brass pulled said heads out of said arses and they had a competitive card today it would cost the same and you would be buying it, praising it, and loving it.

I have 2 Matrox Video cards. One is a matrox Mystique G200, im my Pentium Computer with a Celeron 300 and Win98. The Other Matrox is a Marvel G400 in my Pentium PIII 450 Win98. The 2D is the best and the 3D is damned good. But, The reason why I bought the Marvel G400 is because it is an all-in-one card with the G400 perfomance and excellent 2D. I would definitely consider another video card brand if it were not for the need for the Marvel all-in-one goodies. But, I do love my Marvle G400, it does have lots of compatability problems with some games though. It may be because matrox did not go the extra mile in driver development or maybe an all-in-one can only do so much and there is no more room left for more. A clear and accurate answer here?

You guys who have entirely gone over to the darkside are going to enjoy the level of (coff!) discourse on the nVidia forums. You guys have heard of the "Algonquin Round Table." Well, it isn't going to be anything like that.

I doubt there are many people on the nVidia forums familiar with the Round Table. The average (and I'm using the word loosely) nVidiot made the cultural jump from Barney the Dinosaur to Tombraider, and there lies the limits of their intellectual lives.

I hear the nVidiot will return to his old Barney tapes when looking for some intellectual stimulation, although this has been known to cause severe migranes. He also believes Tombraider is a serious "post-feminist" statement.

Take any bigoted or racist joke, replace the ethnic group being insulted with "nVidiot," and you will find something approaching an existential truth:

Q: How do you break an nVidiot's finger?
A: Punch him in the nose.

Q: How do you tell the groom at an nVidiot wedding?
A: He's the one with the clean bowling shirt.

(Note: There are no brides at nVidiot weddings. Let's get real here. Just a groom and, -er, Madam Palm and her five sisters. The nVidiot honeymoon can be interpreted as a political act, as it consists entirely of "firing the Surgeon General," if you get my drift. )

By the way, this works with many "lightbulb" jokes as well.

Good luck guys. See you in September.
