  • Millenium II disaster

    Hello everyone,

Has anyone come across this problem under NT, 4 when upgrading the Millenium II drivers for NT to the latest version (4.07), also after updating Bios to latest version (setup351.exe), the Matrox drivers suddenly fail to load and cause NT to go haywire?
After Bios update, ran on old drivers fine.
After installing new drivers, problems. No use booting to VGA NT then unistalling and reinstalling drivers, nor removing all MGA etc entries in the Registry. NT 4 seems to now be completely unuseable.
Has this occurred to anybody else and how did they solve it?

    thx!

    Config:
    Aopen AX6B
    Adaptec 2940U2
    1*9Gb IBM U2Scsi HD (DNES)
    1*18GB IBM U2Scsi (DRVS)
    1*6GB WD IDE
    Plextor 32TSI CD Rom
Seagate 8GB Scsi TR4 tape backup
    128MB PC100 RAM
SB 16 ASP ISA sound card
3Com 3COM Etherlink III PCI Busmaster NIC
(was) Millenium II on PCI. Tried changing to CLabs TNT 16MB on AGP to no avail.
Machine then either freezes soon after entering the GUI, but all video drivers fail to load, so it is always in VGA. Only using the NT VGA mode allows the machine to boot.

It might be a problem with New Bios/New Drivers/Your configuration.

Why did you update the Bios? Were there any issues that the latest release addressed that you needed solving in order to use the card?

If the answer is no, then I suggest you down-grade the bios to the older version - often later releases are to fix very small problems that only affect a tiny amount of us and can sometimes (as it seems you've discovered) bring about new problems. If the card worked before, I'd return it to it's original configuration.

However, if you're really stuck, I'd suggest trying to reinstall NT, the updates might have screwed your configuration (seemingly rare and unlikely - but all too possible these days.)
