  • G400 and VIA not getting along[help 8o( ]

My G400Max and Gigabye GA-6VX-4X are not getting along at all.I cant play any games in OpenGL at all.I have tried Q3 and Half-Life both with TurboGL and without,AGP 1x and 2x,no dice.I can run Half-Life and other games in D3D no problem.I am running the VIA 4.17 agp drivers because I hear they are the most stable

Anybody having problems like mine or know any workarounds for OpenGL games.

    Any help is MOST apreciated.

Well here is what I have done to solve problems:
    1. Install the 4.2 Via 4 in 1 drivers.
    2. Install the new 4.02 VIA AGP drivers.
    3. Install the 5.30 Matrox drivers.
    4. Copy the G400ICD.DLL file from your Windows\System directory to a temp folder.
    5. Uninstall 5.30 and install 5.52 drivers.
    6. Copy the old ICD driver from your temp folder to your System directory.
    That's it.
That is the only way to run Ultima9, Thief2 and Q3Arena while having AGP support within DirectX without crashes. However Turbo OpenGL will still not work.
Remember to force AGPx2 for better performance.

    Hope this helps.

        Acs48,
Yep there is a Reg. hack for Forcing 2x operation.. Just goto the Downloads section on the MURC and under Utilities you'll see PD5 Reg. Hacks, it's in there as well as force1x and Auto(default)

If your handy with the registry: do a serch for agpfallback and change the value to 1 for agp 2X.

          Be carefull in there!!!

Hey guys thanks a bunch that worked like a charm.Performance isnt what it was with the TurboGL but it's working at least!

Is it just me or are graphics more clear and sharper with AGP 2.0?Things just seem to look better than it did with my old BH6 which had AGP 1.0

It might just be in my head because my games are working once again hehe.

            Again thanks
