  • Crackling sounds in Tech Demos

When I first got my Computer with a G400, I tried the G400 Tech Demo. It ran fine.

A few months ago, I ran another (generic) tech demo, called Kasparov. It ran alright visually, but the sounds were crackling. (Like static)

Today, I ran the G400 Tech Demo again, and I experienced the same crackling. Strange thing is, the crackling gets better or worse depending on where you look/stand.

I don't think it's an IRQ problem. However, my sound card (SBLive 1024) has recently been moved to IRQ 9. (Previously IRQ 5).

Has anyone experienced these sound problems with a G400 and SBLive??? Everything is working fine in games (So far!). Could it be a driver issue??

    Here is some system info:

VIA ApolloPro133 (MSI 6199VA) [AGP drivers installed]
    Celeron 466
    128MB PC-100 SDRam

    IRQ5: 56k PCI Modem
    IRQ5: Ethernet card
    IRQ5: Realmagic Hollywood+ DVD card
IRQ9: Sound Blaster Live! value (Liveware 3, latest drivers)
    IRQ10: USB Controller
    IRQ11: Matrox G400 (Latest drivers)

    Any help??
    thanks.

I've just tried the G400 5.20 certified drivers. No difference!

If I lower the resolution, the crackling almost stops. (eg: 512x384). However, if I swith BACK to 640x480, the crackling has almost gone!!?? Switching to Point filtering makes the sound terrible, and it starts to screech. Bilinear is better, trilinear is even better.

    What's going on??
