  • Win9* 5.52 Driver Question(s)

Sad but true, I may need to go back to Win98SE (from Win2000). A couple of the applic's I use (WordPerfect, software specific to Financial Planning - mission critical stuff) are "finicky" under Win2000 - sometimes they work, other times, not.

So...would appreciate any comments/input regarding the latest 5.52 drivers - stability, known problems/issues, etc.

    Thanx!

"finicky" how? If sometimes they work, couldn´t it be a setup/configuration problem? Patches/updates from the apps software vendors?
Have you visited www.ntcompatible.com for tips? Have you tried 5.04 drivers?

Sorry, I can´t let go a fellow win2k-er without a fight And remember, mission
critical and win9x simply don´t mix.

I´m staying with win2k. Everything works fine, 5.04 drivers are half-decent (a little performance boost and custom monitor settings would be welcome) but stable. Now that I have a working USB scanner in win2k (Plustek OpticPro U12 for a decent, cheap and win2k compatible scanner with native drivers) it´s bye bye win98. The only thing I could miss would be Toca Touring cars 2, an excelent driving game. Maybe next Microsoft compatibility update will fix it...)

If you still can´t get it to work, 5.52 are fine, the only bug I can remember was the flickering shadows and blood in Q3 )

Hey Nuno, thanks for the reply.

I' trying to work with Corel on WP9. As much as I dislike MS Word, Corel from the getgo has goofed up WP bad. 2 and a half bug fixes and there are still problems. Still like the way it works/handles though. WP9 under Win2k takes a lot of registry hacking to get it to run...and at that, hold your breath...

Also working with the programmers that made the FP software to get some issues ironed out. Yikes, how I hate knowing more about an OS than a programmer/software mfg'r.

Was primarily looking for input on the latest Win98 drivers, just in case. Some of the past Win98 drivers have been good, and then the updates, well, you know...

Almost forgot to update my profile. Dropped in a G400 MAX!

I have no issues, under Win98SE, with WP8! I'm using the 5.52 drivers for my MAX. Relatively speaking, the system is "more stable" than ever. Though it is fair to point out that I do reboot on a regular basis, I keep my drives defraged, and I never ever use the DOS version of scandisk.

Have you considered getting a second drive? Or maybe just setting up another partition, and then go with a dual boot configuration? It's just that Win2k is much better for a great many other programs. With Win9x you're going to be rebooting regularly anyway!
