  • which G400 to buy?

    Hello all.

I'm the happy owner of a G200 and a local casino has recently contributed to the "buy steve a new G400-fund."
(If you would like information on how to donate...)
    anyway

I really don't have a need for "dual-head" support - Really, I'd be fortunate just to receive "Single-Head" - but are there any other differences between Daul and Single head and also OEM vs Retail besides the software bundle.

I thought I read somewhere that the single/OEM version contains different (slower?) RAM or something? But I don't remember...

I sent an email off to graphics.sales@matrox.com - but I'm skeptical of receiving a reply in a reasonable time-frame.

I'd appreciate any help/advice you guys can give me!

    Thanks
    Steven

The OEM does come in a SDRAM model...just make sure you don't get that one.

Also, be aware that SingleHead cards cannot run the RainbowRunner-G add-on card. If you ever want to use one of those, you need to get a DualHead.

Other than that, they are basically the same...

      I knew it!

      Thank you Kruzin!

Because all the spec sheets show specifically retail: 32MB S*G*Ram and for OEM - it's like 32MB. And a lot of retailers do the same thing... They simply don't mention the fact that it's NOT SGRam and if you ( the consumer) assume it is, it's your bad.

      Thank you!
I'm sure the new G400 will treat me right!

ps. and your prompt answer means I can order one tonight!

      Sincerely,
      Steven

Easiest way to tell what kind of RAM it has is to look at the part# you are ordering.

        The last 3 (or 4) digits will contain 16g, 32g, 16d or 32d.
Can you guess which is which?
Yup the number is the amout of RAM, G for sGram, D for sDram.

Just stay away from them D units.....

The number on that sticker is what we need... it should start with a G4+....

The number on the RAM chips is just for them, not the card. All I can tell off-hand from that number is that it's 6ns RAM...
