  • Just out of curiousity, is anyone beta-testing win2k drivers?

Or is the beta-testing program only for win9x?

Yes, some of the Beta Boyz (but not me) are testing Win2k drivers, as well as 9x drivers...in addition to Matrox's in-house testing...

Cool, then. I almost feel tempted to ask when the hell are the new drivers coming. Almost.

As we know, Beta Boys are not allowed to answer specific questions about the drivers they're testing. Maybe if the question was vague and eliptical:

Let's say the new W2K drivers were a tree and that Abit dual-Celeron motherboard was a forest. Would the tree's SMP support permit the forest people to play Quake3 with a 30% framerate increase?

hmmm, I wonder when the wheel will turn full circle. When the new becomes old and the new becomes broken?.

If a leaf falls in the forrest and no one can hear it land, will it land within a month?

If the W2K drivers were an animal, what animal would they be?

I have the latest SMP beta - and I haven't signed any NDA's either!

It still crashes in Q3, funny colours and spontaneous reboots and lockups, especially with r_smp 1. However, when it does run it is around %15 faster than r_smp 0, which is an improvement over the release version.

3DMark2000 still crashes, sometimes BSODs which is an unwelcome addition.

There are a couple other problems that aren't in the release version, but that's why it is beta (actually, I think it said alpha!).

Anyway, I got these drivers because they are specifically targeting the SMP problem, so at least we know they are working on it.

I think I can safely say (without concern about violating the NDA that I signed) that addressing the SMP problem is at the TOP of Matrox's list. You can rest assured that that particular issue is getting plenty of attention...

Speaking in EXTREMELY deep "code" I read in a reply from Haig to a customer request (now deleted) for driver support over on the official fori that it may be May before another W2K release.

Please use this info for patience...not to go into flamefests. EVERY hardware Mfr. is suffering right now.
