  • Benchmark Query

    Hi Guys,

could those of you that have one of those nifty OCing-King-CPUs do me a favor and run some benchmarks on high res ?

I'd like to gather some numbers about the G400s scalability and would love if you could me provide some numbers from various CPU speeds.

Preferably at the resolution of 1600x1200x32bpp and if possible at least with default CPU settings and OCed at highest peaks.

    TIA,
    Maggi

PS: any benchmarks are welcome ...
Despite my nickname causing confusion, I am not female ...

I can't believe nobody has replied to this! This is begging for the super-duper-hardware-tossers attention!

      Well Maggi,

I'd do it for you, but I just have a lowly K6-2 CPU. But I'd like to see the numbers too

It's still Monday(9:45pm here in the states. Maybe Tuesday people will start crawling out of the dazed weekend state.

It's a lot quicker at the normal defaults (640x480, 16-bit/16-bit):

          Game Options On: 85.4
          Game Options Off: 107.9

The last score is a little higher than I've seen it with these setting in the past.

I know I'm not a G400 user, but if you'd like some comparrison benchmarks, I'd be happy to oblige. I'll even post some 3DMark99 scores which will be well below your G400 numbers!

I guess I'm one of them tossers, except 720 isn't what it was a month ago

I ran 3dmark2000, which gives me consistent results. Sorry, but I don't have Q3.

                Common test settings:
See system at bottom. Additional info:
                W98 (not SE)
                RAM at 2-2-2 up to 620, 3-2-2 at 667, 3-3-3 at 720
5.52 drivers (5.50 and up add quite a few points to this benchmark--see my earlier post).
AGP 2x, sideband enabled, Aperture 128
For nearly all tests I ran my Max at 173/216. For 151/201, knock off about 3%.
Z buffer bit = regular bit; triple buffer

At 1600x1200x32 things are real ugly. No amount of CPU is going to help. The image is very dark. This setting uses 30MB of graphics RAM, so all textures go over the AGP. That may be why.

                Anyway, here are the scores:

500-1024-16 2771 (only test with stock Max)
                500-1024-16 2863
                575-1024-16 3139
                620-1024-16 3275
                667-1024-16 3392
                (a glitch earlier added 100)
                720-1024-16 3483 (Game 1 high = 31.5)

                Now for the ugly part:
                667-1024-32 2627
                667-1280-32 1594
                667-1600-32 949
                720-1024-32 2661
                720-1280-32 1597
                720-1600-32 979 (ouch! Game 1 high = 5.7)

At higher res, 16 bit is much better:
                720-1280-16 2429

As you can see, once in 32 bit even an overclocked Max becomes the bottleneck as low as 1024. At 1600x1200x32 the card is choking. It desperately needs more RAM at this res...among other things.

Final note: I also ran some tests with a second stick of 128. No change.

one slight hitch, you guys are posting 3DMark99 scores, and I don't have a registered copy of that... so 800x600 (which is pathetic) is as high as I can offer. Anyone gonna try a different benchmark?

My scores were 3dmark2000, unregistered version downloadable off the net. Though as much as I've used it I guess it's time to pay up.

3dmark99max is a joke in the unregistered version for the very reason you mention, only allows one setting.

I've also run 3dwinmark2000, but it's so CPU dependent the card doesn't make a difference.
