  • Need help Desperately.

The conflicts lie not in the drivers, but the components themselves.

The HPT66 adapter on the BE6 board is linked to one of your PCI slots. So is the AGP slot. Those two slots are, essentially, useless to you under Win9x (not so under Win2k using the ACPI HAL). I forget which slot the U66 is linked to (3 or 4) but the AGP is linked to slot 1.

Other than that, there are no "driver" issues involved here.

Make sure you have the latest BIOS, and shuffle your cards accordingly.

    Need help Desperately.

    Ok. Here's the problem.

The last time i tried to install the G400 PD 5.52 drivers, the Abit BE-6 drivers and the SB Live Liveware 3.0 drivers, the computer refused to let me into windows and i ended up having to format my harddisk to solve the problem.

Does anyone know if there are any driver issues with these components? I would very much like to have the liveware 3.0 drivers as well as the PD 5.52 drivers AT THE SAME TIME.

Waiting for help as always :P

Basically, what he's saying is that in some cases, resources are shared by different devices. For instance, the AGP slot shares an IRQ with the 1st PCI slot in many (most/all?) motherboards. To avoid problems, you should leave slot 1 open when using an AGP card.

Apparently on your motherboard, it sounds like your hard drive controller (someone correct me...) shares resources with another PCI slot.

A check of your motherboard manual should tell you what shares resources with what.

I think if you open your computer & start moving cards around, you can get around this problem.

It may take some time, but you can probably find a configuration that will work for you - I know your motherboard is a very popular one around here.

So basically, this is what I'm getting out from it... if my G400 is in slot 1, and the SB Live in slot 3, I MAY have to move it to something like 2 and 3 to solve the problem?

I really don't understand because I don't see why the placing of slots can prevent my system from booting up when I install NEW drivers. See, G400 and SB Live work fine now (current drivers: PD 5.52, Liveware 2.1), but what happened was that once I installed Liveware 3.0, the system screw up.

Bah... darn techie did'nt help much either. He said one word... FORMAT

There have been some issues involved with upgrading from older liveware versions to newer ones...

Basic rule of thumb that I follow...

          1. Do a basic Windows installation.
          2. Create an image of the installation that can be restored at a later date.
          3. Install only the latest drivers (do not install old drivers, then upgrade to current)
          4. When new drivers come out, restore the image, and start over.

This can be a lot of work and hassle, but in the end, it's about the cleanest you can get, and the least troublesome.

Now, to get past your troubles...

Did you have an earlier version of the PD installed before upgrading to 5.52?

If so, did you run the "uninstaller" to clean it out before upgrading?

Have you tried un-installing the SBLive! 2.1 drivers first, then scanning the registry for entries pertaining to the Live!, and removing them?

Do you have the latest BIOS for the BE6?

What slots are all the devices in...

Guyver: Very sorry, I don't understand a word of this. Guess I REALLY need LOTS of help huh.

Anyways, I was using PD 5.50.01 beta drivers before this, and I did use the uninstaller. I am using the latest BE-6 drivers (dled from website) and followed installation instructions as fully as possible. As for Liveware 2.1, is there a proper way to uninstall it? I can't seem to be able to find an uninstall button anywhere.

              Thanks again.

                To uninstall LW2.0/2.1 drivers:
-Download the newest SBlive drivers from www.sblive.com sbl9xdrv1199.zip ver4.06.711
                -Download LW3.0
                -Boot into Safe Mode.
Remove the SBLive from ControlPanel> AddRemove programs> SBLive
                Reboot
                Install the newest drivers first.
                Reboot
                Install LW3.0

This should help with the SBLive problem.
