  • G400Max and Win98SE clean install.

    Hi:

I'm trying to avoid that messy and convoluted full/manual driver uninstall. I want to install this card in a Win98SE clean install. PIIIE 733MHz or>/Asus P3B-F.

What is the version number of the drivers on the Install CD shipped with the AGPx4 (4a) card? Surely they aren't still shipping the old "must be manually removed" drivers.

Ditto for the bios version number.

When Win98SE is installing (in Windows default VGA mode I assume), finds the card and asks for drivers, I can't have the latest drivers v5.52.015 in W9x_552.exe expanded and ready to point to. What is the best way to proceed here?

Is there an option to decline a Matrox driver install at this point, remain in Windows default VGA until I can install WinZip 8.0 to extract the files to C:\ so the setup file is ready to point to?

The files would be in unexpanded form on my Secondary Master HDD after a transfer from an old HDD I am junking.

Is it necessary to update the bios to 1.5 before attempting to install the 5.52 drivers?

Are there any similar (best not to install the old) issues with other software on the install disc(s)?

    Thanks in advance,

When it asks for the drivers, just hit cancel. It will remain in vga mode. Then just run the setup.exe in the driver package when it's available.
