  • is 24 fps in q3 ok with a athlon 600 on an msi board?

basically @ 1024x768 32bpp for all settings, lightmap, 3/4 texture detail, everything else max, getting 24 fps in timedemo demo001 and demo002 using the latest win98 betadriver Windows 9x - 5.50.01 (4.3MB).
+ installed latest agp miniport + busdrivers.
It just doesn't seem fast enough.

    as for irqs,

the machines in question are all identical, (x4 ) and all have the g400 on irq 11, sharing with a soundblaster 128. I've only had the machines for 4 hours and I have until monday afternoon to give the boss justification for getting the g400 (vanilla single head 16mb, hate to say it but I'm getting better frame rates on a bh6 cel400 with a tnt32mb.

I'll post on monday if full irq's are needed, But I'm sure no other conflicts are mentioned.

I guess it's that sharing with our soundblaster ...

      ta, thanks for the info....

Since got home and checked it out on my cel300a @450 and noticed that the fps is exactly the same as mine is in win2000 using the latest beta drivers (not the non beta release from today) definately a problem, from what ive seen it should be at least twice what it is, keep yas posted on the developments....

hey waxling, one thing when using q3 it reports athlon as PII/MMX and not Athlon, this is the first thing i noticed. Another thing most people here overclock their g400s until i overclocked mine (186mem/140 core)with powerstrip (i don't use any cooling system) and then my scores went up (near 40+ fps in 1024 32 bit all to the max, billinear) !

          Hi Guys
          I've just upgraded rom a k6-2-450@500 to an Athlon @750 woth my G400 32DH.
It sure seems like the G400 is the bottle- neck as my fps hardly changed at 1024*768*32 (~32). However, when i o/c'd to max levels I got much more of a boost than before. Now running at over 39fps. 800* was about 60 fps (compared to ~30 before), haven't tried 640* as I don't intend playing it.

Gotta get myself that decent g400 cooler now.

          Cheers, Tony.
          FT.

Exactly how do you disable the VSync please?
You all may think this is not important.
BUT IT IS AMATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH!

There are a couple of ways to disable Vsync.

You could download the PD5 registry hacks from MURC. Unzip them into their own directory and double-click on the appropriate hack. Don't forget to reboot. Here's the link:
              http://www.murc.ws/Utils/PD5RegHacks.zip

You could download the Matrox Tweak Utility and check-off the appropriate box. Don't forget to reboot. Here's the link:
              http://www.murc.ws/Driver/Win9x/PD5/...ak_utility.exe
