Anyone know how to remove this annoyance?
    Any help would be appreciated.

The following did the trick for me:

    1) Start the movie and pause it somewhere AFTER the main menu.
    2) Open Display Properties
    3) Go to Settings
    4) Click Advanced
    5) Go to Monitor Settings
    6) Click Adjust This Setting (or something like that)
    7) Now you should have a test pattern on the screen
    8) Click Cancel, Cancel, Cancel (to exit display properties completely.
    9) Unpause the movie.

Macrovision protection is now disabled until you stop or rewind the movie :-)

That above method did not do jack for me..

But, I have found a SVHS "cideo clarifier" for $119 shipped. Sounds pricey at first, but, it also has individual adjustments for R,G, and B. As well as sharpness, tint, color, contrast.

So, at one hand, I have to pay an extra $119 for movies that I already friggin *OWN* becuase of macrovision. But, I cant do much about that. On the other hand, I do get controls over many aspects of the video signal that I do not already have and I can make the picture on my screen even better.

I would be willing to pay an extra $5 to the studios on my movie titles to not have macrovision.
