  • Got Win2k and a G400

I just installed Win2k and a G400 and got everything running just fine in VGA mode, but when I d/led and installed the new Win2k 5.03 drivers things stopped working. When I get to the point where the desktop loads the screen stays black and the computer halts...I have to hard reset. Anyone have any ideas?

Well I know people will ask for all your hardware settings and stuff so you might as well post that

no one can really help till they know what kind of system you have memory, irq's, and so on which you can get drom device manager.

Also if you're using a dual cpu system or not as well.

try not having your processor overclocked. I have read that Win2k is very finicky with overclocked hardware. So I have heard anyway.

I'm overclocking an Athlon 500 at 850 in win2000 - no problems here. Intel CPU's might be a different story though.

I can confirm that win2k is, in fact, more sensitive to overclocked/flakey hardware. If you have mem errors in win2k, it can cause all sorts of problems----don't ask, believe me, I have experienced it

Funny enough I can install win2k with some memory on my VA503+ rev 1.2A mobo that win98 refuses to install on. Go figure. Linux and BeOS install on the crap memory (which THANK GOD I've finally replaced. About to install win98se to 1) Watch TV in my room and 2)Test out the latest VIA drivers firsthand)
