  • Questions about Dual-head video playback.

After having spoken to Matrox tech support, I was told that I can not do the following:

Runinng a G400 Max Dual head with 32 MB.
Have the DVD Max video option turned on.
Playing *.mpg or *.avi movies using windows media player.

While I play them, they play in the media player window and on the secondary display/TV, until I bring another application like Word or Widows Explorer to the foreground. The file continues to play in the media player window, but the output on the second display/TV pauses until I bring media player back to the front, then it continues from wherever the movie is currently at. Why is this? Is there a way to put the player in the background and have the file continue to play on my secondary display/TV?

    Help!

Haven't tried for a while, but my experience was pretty much the same. Same applies to playing a DVD title in the background--doesn't get output to the TV until it's the foreground app.

No doubt we'll be told that the blame lies with Microsoft's operating system, but c'mon--wasn't one of the 'features' of the G400 that you could "play DVDs on your TV while still using your computer"? Uh, doing _what_ with your computer? Whirling the mouse around on the screen?

If you find a solution, I'd like to hear what it is.

If you use the Matrox DVD player that shipped with the card, you can play DVDs on your TV, even if the DVD player is not the active app on your monitor...even if the DVD player is minimized, it will continue to play.

If you use a different DVD player, or hack the cinemaster engine, this may not hold true...but if you use what the card came with, it works.

Sorry, FYSavant...this doesn't help your question...

For Media Player, just select the Always on Top (Control-T also changes this).
