  • Win2k Beta 5.01 drivers and SMP?

Has anyone tried the new ( as of Feb. 10 ) Win2k 5.01 Beta drivers on an SMP machine?

I have an abit bp6 mobo and with the 4.93 drivers, win2k would lock up when the driver is started. Everything works fine with default vga driver so i'm guessing the beta drivers have smp issues.

The readme file in both 4.93 and 5.01 says nothing about SMP compatibility and matrox tech support have yet to get back to me. I'm really not interested in installing win2k only to find that the new drivers have the same problems and subsequently having to reformat/reinstall 98.

    Any input would be appreciated.

    thanx.

I'm running the new drivers on my dual box. No problems that I've seen...

the latest beta driver works in dual box but if your question is if the driver itself is smp enable the answer is no.

yeah, same here. The machine works with SMP, but the games like Q3A don't work in SMP mode... best thing to do is set the system processes on one processor and set the game on the other processor, using the Set affinity stuff in the task manager.

just got the full version today and setup a dual boot, the thing i've noticed is my #2 processor is always at 40%...doing nothing. other that that...it's running real fast. now i just need for creative and epson to get the drivers for win2k for their products. i just downloaded the new iomega software for win2k, loaded without a hitch!!

          here my system:

Motherboard: AMI MegaRUM II, dual 600Mhz Pentium III processors (installed), each with a 32/512 Cache configuration. 512 Mb of PC100, 8ns memory. Symbios Logic 53C896 U2W SCSI controllers. Intel 443GX Xeon chipset.

          SCSI I/O:

          Channel 1(LVD/U2): 4 Seagate LVD Cheetah 18LP, ST39103LW Ultra2 Wide SCSI-3 hard Drives, each with 1024k cache.

          Channel 2(SE): JAZ 2GB internal, Plex-Writer 8/20, Pioneer DVD-303s ultra-scsi DVD reader and 2 UltraPlex-Wide 17/40 speed CD-ROM drives.

USB: USB Zip Drive, Epson Stylus Scan 2500, Intellimouse Explorer

Networking: The network adapter is a 3Com 3C509B-TX PCI 10/100 Mbps controller, and a US Robotics Courier V.Everything 33.6/28.8/x2/V.90 internal ISA modem.

Video: Matrox G400 Max with Dual Head. The primary display is a Panasonic PanaSync E21, .25-dot pitch, 20" viewable; the secondary display is a Viewsonic flat panel display model VP150.

Multi-media: Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live PCI Bus Mastering sound card. Speaker system is the Cambridge Works FPS2000 Digital speaker system.

The 40% processor issue sounds like an ACPI issue, some asus boards have this problem also. On the asus boards it only occurs if you are running the ACPI kernel, if you are, you might try reloading with the standard MPS HAL, or it might be fixed with a BIOS update from your M/B manufacturer.
