If you dual boot like me W2K/W98SE, you will begin to hate win98, once all hardware companies have solid W2k driver, I shall delete W98 from my box.

anyone knows how to delete w98 from dual boot?

the latest g400 w2k beta fixed many of the problems, now let's just hope they put smp support in their final release.

i've had mixed results with the g400 win2k drivers... i just got my card last week. up until today the drivers would not work at all. i kept getting funky messages.. check it out in the "powerdesk" forum. i posted the situation there. its workin great right now though

To delete win98, find the boot.ini file on your boot drive, remove the "read only" attirbute from it's properties and open it in notepad. Delete the entire line that refers to Windows 98. Save and reboot.

Once you get 'em working they're certainly speedy. I got an extra 10 fps. About a 30% increase.

So far so good here, including playing UT quite a bit on this setup:

              Win2K (build 2195)
              G400-TV (5.01.019 drivers)
              K7-600 + K7M

I haven't benched anything, but I don't feel there is any difference between the previous drivers and the current. Well, actually...I can run UT in OpenGL mode now under Win2K, and the GL screensavers seem to work for me now too.

              (everything else is incidental)

Hmm well they're pretty good so far. I just can't seem to get around a long term problem. I'm using a Abit BP6 with dual Celly's and Win2k RTM (2195). Windows 98 runs fine but in Win2k I have to disable the use Bus Master option.

Don't ask why... I have no Idea. There are no IRQ Clashes I've tried High IRQs and low for the G400MAX. Complete re installs of Win2k from scatch don't help either. I've even removed every other card in the PC with no luck. I've heard rumours that people have had odd problems with SB Live cards in the PC with the MAX but I'm not taking the sound card out to play 3D games... sorta defeats the object somewhat. Even with BM on things are fine until I fire up a 3D Game.. I then get a video lockup within 2-3 mins everytime, with BM off it's fine.

Win98 works with no problems. TNT based cards work fine..

I'm begining to wonder if it may be an SMP issue... Hmm If i'm feeling brave at the weekend I might rip the second Proc out for a while and see if that works but then i'd have to switch to single processor HAL.

It's bloddy annoying realy. If I could just solve this problem I could use Win2k full time... bah humbug.

                  Athanor/Tim:

It is absolutely an SMP issue. Currently, Matrox is sucking in the SMP department, as no Win2k drivers to date have supported it without major crashes and lockups.
