  • G400Max and Creative Encore

Yesterday I bought a G400Max. I got very disapointed when I´d installed it and was going to watch a DVD. My player just hanged. Is there a solution? I´ve got a Tyan motherboard with PII 350,320MB RAM, SB PCI128, G400MAX and Creative´s Encore DXR3.

Before I had a Mystique G200, and there where no problem.

    Please, someone. Make me happy.
    Regards
    Andreas

      Hi Andreas!

I have the same problem, G400 MAX and a CL DVD-Encore 2x. Yesterday I tested all the day and the only thing I found was, that if you check the box for sync with every second frame (or so, the last box at the DVD-Max-properies). Then the player starts, but there was only a accurate picture on the TV, when I switched to fullscreen or cinema. But then I had a new problem: only every second frame of the dvd-video was shown.

I used the Matrox DVD-player and enlarged the decoder-card from CL.

I think it is a problem with the IDE-DVD-Drive from CL, may be only a driver problem.

The rest of my system: P II 300; 64 MB RAM ; U2W SCSI IBM HDD; ASUS P297S; Hauppauge WinTV, SB 64 gold

        Isn't the CL DXR3 a H+?

By the way, which player hangs? The Matrox or the Creative? Try losing the monitor loopthrough or using the original Sigma-drivers IF it is indeed a H+ ...

          I´m sorry. I said DXR3, but it was DXR2.
The player that hangs is the Creative player. I don´t use any PowerDVD, Zoran or anything. It doesn´t seem to work with the encore MPEG-card, so I´ve decided to buy a new soundcard instead to get the DolbyDigital-sound.

          Thanks

I haven´t moved my card since last time I watched a DVD. The only thing I did was removing my G200, inserted G400 and installed the drivers for it. I didn´t istall the drivers for Matrox DVD.
Then I tried to run a DVD, but the system hanged. I then restarted my PC and tried again, same result.
I then uninstalled both cards, still with same results.
Then I installed the Matrox DVD. Now I could watch the DVD (with MatroxDVD), but I don´t get the DolbyDigital-sound. I still can´t watch it through the Creative DVD-player.

The DXR2 cards is very picky about which PCI slot it sits in. Generally it will not function unless it is in PCI 2 or 3. Preferably with no cards 'above' it.

Perhaps something within PD sets up dvd playback through the g400 only. Try re-installing the dvd player software as well as the drivers for you creative card and see what happens. In what slots do you have the decoder card? Have you moved it since you last played a dvd through it?

Now I´ve tried everything. I uninstalled and removed my Encore-card, bought a new soundcard with digital output. But when I installed this card, I couldn´t get any sound through the DigOut.
Now I removed my G400 and the soundcard, installed my G200 and the Encore, and everything worked as it should.
What the HMMM is the problem with G400MAX? I´m so disappointed rightnow. Tomorrow I´m going to buy a home DVD-player.
