One way to do it is to download and install the utility here - http://www.entechtaiwan.com/files/psbeta.exe - and then create a couple of shortcuts to it with the following command-line parameters:

      pstrip.exe /agp:1x
      pstrip.exe /agp:2x

This allows you to switch the transfer rate dynamically, w/o restarting W2K. You can check the current AGP configuration with a 3rd shortcut:

      pstrip.exe /diag

But before you change the transfer rate, try the following:

PowerStrip menu > Advanced options > Performance

Check the option labelled "Disable write combining", and reboot.

You may find this alone solves any instability you were having w/o changing the AGP transfer rate.

Why would you want to force AGP 1x in Win2k? And how do you know it's not already on 1x?
