  • How far do you overclock your G400 with the Tweak Utility?

I'm guessing maybe about 120%? Is that about right? OR do i just keep going up until it's unstable, and then bring it back down? What is the average for you guys? And is there a big difference? I've overclocked it to about 120% and i didn't see any increase at all....

To be honest not at all now since it causes my wintv2000 program to crash. When I did use it I managed 115 without artifacts in games.

Well, I used the MGA Tweak downloaded from MURC and set the system clock to 300MHz and I get a 150/200MHz core/mem speed, which is the MAX setting, I think!!

Have been running that way for a month now without any problems. :0) Any body know how much further can we push it??

      Cheers

I have mine set at 117% to run 100% stable - at all resolutions but i can go upto 122% but only on some of the resolutions without artifacts showing themselves. I just keep it at 117%, which is good enough i think.

i run mine at 121% which i changed via powerstrip and not mga tweak. I have always found the best way to oc is to go up and up until it's nolonger stable then knock it back a notch or two. A word of warning however. don't leave it unattended until you are sure it's stable. Going to bed and leaving it on, it's bound to crash 5 seconds after you've left the room and then it's got all night to turn into soggy goo.

              I also use mga tweek.

My g400max runs fine at 173/216. This is with a 432 PLL, and dividers of 2.5/2/2.5.

Speaking of the PLL, does running this higher have any good/bad effects?
For example, the max default is 150. If I set the PLL to 450 and use a 3 divider, I still get a 150 clock. But, does the higher PLL do anything (good/bad), or does it all come down to the final clock speed?

                Neil,

The Matrox G400 chip specs is the only chip spec of all Matrox chips that states maximum system PLL clock speed is 310MHz. If you have the system PLL at more than 310MHz, you're at out-of-specs.

It's your CPU's problem. K6 series' non-pipelined FPU hurt the performance...

You will see that G400 scales very well at 150/200 (G400Max) when your have a fast FPU with enough memory bandwidth.

I used to OC at 126%. Any percentage above it and it would become unstable, even at 126.1% !!!

I'm now down to the more stable 120.5% but to be honest, I don't see much difference against it being at 100% ...

Mine only goes up to 116%, but I don't use a fan. I changed the bios so that I don't have use software and to be sure that it's running at maximum speed.

I leave mine at 115%. At 120 UT and Q3A both had problems.

                              Running timedemo in Q3A, I got a 2-3 fps every 5% o/c.
