  • overclocking g400 (vanilla)

my questions are probably answered somewhere but I'm new to all this stuff....

i have the vanilla (?) g400 (dh 32 mb) - is this a max board that failed some tests? where's the fan?

what about overclocking? any suggestions, hints or experiences? (mhz, tools etc.)

playing quake3 @ 800x600, 32bit (pd 5.41, turbo gl 1.00) makes my system hang up after a few minutes every time. why?

    thanx & cu.

There is no fan. And this is great!
The vanilla G400 has a larger heatsink than the MAX (Which has a heatsink-fan combo).
So just make sure that you have very good air-flow over the heatsink and you can easily overclock the G400 without (or only very little) risk.
I installed a big fan over the heatsink and managed to get the G400 stable at MAX-values (Though i decided to not do this all the time, but i run it with 115% clock- and memory-speed)

When you want to overclock your G400, use the official Matrox-Overclocking tool. You can use different levels of overclocking for each screen-resolution with this little programm.

Hope i could be of help,
    Stormeye

You could also try MGA Tweak. Lots of advanced features.

Make sure you slap on a fan to that heatsink of yours.

      CHEERS......
