      Rimfaxe,

The G450 is just a G400 with hardware T&L and some other minor changes.
The G800 is a completly new chip and set to be at least 2 times faster than the G400MAX

at matroxusers it says that the g450 will have software t&l not hardware!!!!
        the g800 will!!!
seems pointless to even have a g450 to me )
seen as one will be realeased quite soon after the other!

An old story for those fascinated with "hardware T&L":

Back in 80's Motorola designed the MC68030 CPU. The CPU used an external floating point unit (like Intel 386). The FPU could execute many instructions, including simple and transcendental functions (trigonometric, etc.). Later Motorola designed the successor to '030, the MC68040. They decided to integrate the FPU on chip (like in Intel 486). Unfortunately they couldn't afford enough silicon real estate to implement full FPU. So they decided to build the FPU that could only handle basic operations and provide the emulation software to handle all the more complicated ones (keeping full binary code compatiblity with '030+FPU). '040 with software/emulated transcendental functions proved to be faster than '030 with fulll hardware FPU in all cases.

The point is: if you want to get speedy stuff, hardware implementation may or may not be a good way to achieve this. The fact that someone does something in hardware doesn't imply that this implementation is faster than the software one.

Seeing the fact that there is a QuadHead G100 and G200, I'm pretty sure we'll see also another QuadHead in new G-flavor sometimes ...
