  • Problems w/ Dualhead

    I have a g400 max w/
Viewsonic PS790(19") as my primary monitor and an Ancient Magnavox Enhanced VGA monitor (15")as secondary monitor.

When I go to switch dualhead on (from Display Properties) or when dualhead autostarts at bootup it sometimes fails to initialize the secondary monitor. What usually happens is the 2nd screen flicks on and off w/ a green color five or six times making a narly clicking sound then just stops. (At which point dualhead just assumes second monitor doesn't exist).

Sometimes it doesn't happen for weeks. Sometimes it happens for weeks. Sometimes it only flickers 3 or 4 times and then catches. It also does this when I have my TV hooked up as the secondary display.

I've noticed that if I leave the 2ndary monitor off at bootup (or when I use Display Properties to reenable dualhead) then wait a few secs to turn it on it never gives me a problem.

Anyway, I thought it might be a problem specific to my system, but soon found out that one of my friends (who has Identical system I built for him) does the same thing. He has same primary monitor but even older and cheezier secondary monitor.

Has anyone else had this problem? and if so is there something I can do to prevent it?

Just wondering. I just am afraid that I might be screwing up my monitor or G400 somehow. Otherwise I LOVE this card.
I've talked my brother into buying a Marvel for use in his work designing theatre stages, a friends work into buying 3 dell cadd workstations with the Millenium card, and of course the 2 systems I built w/ it.

    Does Matrox offer commissions?

When I have my two monitors connected (21" DELL 2128 and 14" ASTVision 4L) I have no problems, but when I change the 2nd monitor for a TV (tried a couple of different ones) I do get the mad flickering before it kicks in. Don't know why, I've just ignored it as I've never seen anyone else complain or seen a fix anywhere.

    Sorry I'm no help!

I'll just add that the 2nd screen (the AST 4L) is not that bad (or cheesey) a screen, so maybe it's the old monitors the g400 doesn't like (or the smell of cheese)

I think it's only the PnP detection for that 2ndary monitor ...

I got the same kind of switching clicks on my old MicroVitec1438 Multisync ...

Those old monior used a different technique than the modern ones and were way slower in switching resolutions.
