Computer Lockups...

I have a Celeron 366 ABIT BEG-6 motherboard, 64mgs of ram, Matrox G400, Monster 3d sound card, UDMA ATA 66 for the harddrive...

My computer keeps locking up. When I am webbrowsing, playing games and when it is just sitting doing nothing.... It locks up not right away and itsalways random.The Computer is not overclocked and it is not running hot. Please help me out...

Drivers: DirectX 7, TurboGl 1.00, powerdesk 5.41, windows 9x 5.41. All but directx 7 from matrox

Here's what I think is happening with some cases/mother boards.


Try bending your bracket as shown to see if it helps with the lockups.

I'm not liking all those unknown and blank devices... if you have the SB emulation on IRQ 5 coming up as "unknown" (c'mon, we all know that's what it is...), you're lucky all that you're seeing is random lockups, given that you've got quite a bit of HW that is not properly installed.

Here's what I suggest:[list=1][*]Determine the location of all your drivers (in other words, get out your CDs, or unzip your downloads to some appropriate temp folder);[*]Boot into Safe Mode;[*]Open Device Manager;[*]Remove all multiple instances of any hardware, and any hardware with the yellow exclamation point (if any of these include your IDE controller, or your HDD controller, save those to last);[*]Reboot normally and let Windows reinstall everything it needs to (point it to the CDs or the folders as appropriate, but don't let Windows reboot till you've reinstalled everything);[*]Let us know if that fixed it.[/list=a]

If you're not using the standard ide channels
you can disable those. That should free up some interupts. If your using them and not ultra dma disable that instead (Hpt366). If you're NOT (err as pointed out by jorden) using the usb you might as well disable it. I'm also wondering what the unknown device is. Oh by the way disable both the usb and either of the ide's in the bios as well as windoze.
By the way Abit don't list a beg-6 on there website is that a typo?

If you're using the usb you might as well disable it.

I must stress that the Pit meant "If you're NOT using the usb you might as well disable it."
