What you did wrong is that you pointed it to c:\mga when win98 asked for drivers. Matrox cards never use the standard windows autodetect hardware and point me to the driver directory. They always use the "setup" program.

Use the uninstaller and bring it up in win98 with the vga driver. Then run the "setup" program that you unzipped to the c:\mga folder. On the next bootup, it should have the g400 drivers without having to tell it anything.

The problem I have is that when I use the 'Setup' for any of the Matrox drivers, the system reboots then tries to find the driver again. I don't have any choice but to point it to the directory.

You have the correct drivers. The 5.41 was only released on decmeber 1. It is reasonable to expect that the drivers were five days old when they were released (11-26-99 or in english 26-11-99). The previous drivers were october 6th

        Loading new drivers

I attempted to load the new 5.41 drivers for my G400. I followed the instructions to manually uninstall the old drivers and switched to the VGA driver. When I rebooted and WIn 98 asked for drivers, I directed it
to C:\MGA folder where I had unzipped the 5.41 drivers. However in device manager driver files details it shows that I have version 4.11.01.1110 dated 11-26-99. What did I do wrong and what is the # for the new drivers?

          LOL ...

FYI, the 4.11.x numbers are the drivers
the 5.x numbers are PowerDesk ... the GUI for the drivers

It is pretty funny, but I recall being a little confused by the different version numbers for PowerDesk and the actual drivers.

If the VGA driver is properly installed, Windows shouldn't ask for drivers as it already has drivers. Something's fishy. I'd reinstall the VGA drivers and run the setup program.

The Standard VGA Adapter SEEMS to be properly installed, but the same thing happens - run Setup, install the 5.30 driver, reboot, system detects the Matrox card and asks for the driver again.

I've also noticed that TurboGL doesn't show on the PD menu, nor can I find any folder relating to TurboGL on the system.
