  • AGP aperture and G400MAX

Doe anyone know of any utility programs besides Sandra that tell you the AGP aperture size in windows? I have mine set to 256mb in the bios, but Sandra is only reporting a 32mb aperture (I know.. sandra lies a lot). The strange thing is though, 3dmark2k won't run the 64mb texture render test anymore ans is only reporting about 43mb of texture emmory available. This only started recently, as the 64mb texture render test worked fine before using agp texture swaps. Any ideas or a suggestion to make sure my system is leaving a 256mb aperture? I want to make sure windows isn't doing something stupid. Thanks

Oh, and yes, I have all the recent drivers and chipset support etc. :P

    WCPUID will do it too...

    try www.3dfiles.com in utilities

Me too;-) I can't run 3dmark2k "64mb texture render test" when I set to
128/256MB Aperture size in the BIOS. Of course I have physical 384MB(128*3).
      What's your OS? Mine is Win2000 RTM(Build2195) + PDesk for Win2000(5.00.013)
on ASUS P3B-F Rev 1.03(1004 BIOS).

In my case, utility programs(WCPUID, PStrip, etc...) reports me same AGP
aperture size that set at BIOS setting. But 3dmark2k's system info reports
57960KB Total Texture Memory whenever set AGP Aperture size at 64MB, 128MB,
      256MB;-)

Actually, you can't run 64M test when o'c/high fsb setting, which is,
of course, one way not to be able to run 64M test;-)

But my case is different... I can't run it when NOT o'c/high fsb.
The reason why I can't run is NOT o'c/high fsb in my case. There is
NOT enough "Total Texture Memory" whenever set AGP Aperture size at
        128MB, 256MB.

3dmark2k help stated, "The 64MB test requires 128MB of system memory
and you must have enough AGP memory available (not all accelerators
support addressing over 64 MB of memory). You may need to increase AGP
Aperture Size in your computer BIOS to get enough AGP memory to run
        this test.".

I DO NOT belive G400 MAX does not support addressing over 64MB of memory.
Because there's people who can run this 64MB test.

        Here is PowerStrip report.

        ------------------------------------------------
        Local, Non-Local, DirectX Memory,
        ------------------------------------------------
        [4MB] 24.7MB + 3.9MB = 28.6MB
        ------------------------------------------------
        [8MB] 24.7MB + 7.9MB = 32.6MB
        ------------------------------------------------
        [16MB] 24.7MB + 15.9MB = 40.6MB
        ------------------------------------------------
        [32MB] 24.6MB + 0.0MB = 24.6MB
        ------------------------------------------------
        [64MB] 24.7MB + 31.9MB = 56.6MB
        ------------------------------------------------
        [128MB] 24.7MB + 31.9MB = 56.6MB
        ------------------------------------------------
        [256MB] 24.7MB + 31.9MB = 56.6MB
        ------------------------------------------------
        * Win2000 RTM(Build2195) + PowerDesk for Win2000(5.00.013) on ASUS P3B-F

Look at 64, 128, 256MB results... Why all the same 56.6MB???
The reason depends upon PDesk for Win2000 or Win2000 DX7 or P3B-F???;-)

It is either funded in your Mobo's bios not support greater g.a.s. than 64MB
(latest one is here: ftp://ftp.asuscom.de/pub/ASUSCOM/BIOS/Slot_I/INTEL_Chipset/i440BX/P3B-F/1004f3.zip )

          Or it's a limitation of Win2000 ...

hmm... Anyone can run 64M test on Win2000 BOX?

All those that have posted W2k results had not enough memory available ...

That's what made me think it's W2k related.

Here is something odd.. I lowered my AGP size from 256 to 128 and the 64mb test runs, and the utilities coorectly report a 128mb aperture size. I have 256mb of pc133 memory and am running a fsb of 103mhz.
When I set the aperture to 256, the utilities reports it only being 32mb. Stupid winblows is wacked up.

I guess I'll just run at 128mb, since there doesn't seem to be any differance between 128 or 256 aperture

I thought it was a problem with my system ocing. I just upped the FSB and tested with 3DMark2K and noticed 64M test couldn't run.

                  Maybe 3DM2K hAS Y2k problem?

                    Mark F,

Just put the AGP aperture size to 128 or 256MB and the benchmark runs just fine. I noticed the same thing when i was playing around with my MAX o'c settings. =)

                      http://www.entechtaiwan.com/ps.htm

PowerStrip tells how much texture memory is available (local - screenbuffers + AGP memory = texture mem)

Just ran mine as well last night...checked and found that my texture mem is just over 128 Mb.. well, seeing as I only have 128 Mb mem, I guess I cannot complain too much abt it.. Other than that everything runs fine. Lousy score of 1273 though..

Going to overclock the card next as soon as I can get hold of a fan for it.

Cant expect too much from a SS7 eh?
