  • G400 DH + DVD + VCR

I've got a G400 dual head and a DVD player connected to my tv/stereo. I was using the prebundled Matrox software DVD decoder to play my DVD movies.

However, when I tried to record the TV output to my VCR, it looks as if there is some kind of copy protection scheme. The color fades in and out and becomes downright annoying. It does this both when I'm using the DVDmax for the 2nd head and when I'm using a NTSC dual head clone for the 2nd head. It really confused me when the dual head clone did this.

My DVD drive came with a Zoran soft DVD player, and I installed that. To my good fortune, it plays correctly with the DVDmax 2nd head of the G400. And when I record the Zoran soft dvd TV output to my VCR, it WORKS! The color does not fade in and out, and it looks about as good as a VCR can.

Has anybody else run across this problem? Is it true that the Matrox soft dvd program integrates VCR copy protection? Does anybody else have work arounds?

      Hi Thundrchez,

yes that is caused by copy protection ...

afaik there was a patch to get rid of that annoying macrovision thing, because it sometimes even pops in when you playback self-made movies (if I remember correctly)

Unfortunately I don't have that patch, neither do I have the link, but maybe some other people could help out ?
