  • Adj. PCI Latency in Powerstrip *.ini

    My pci latency according to pcilist is 64 as well, why would you want to make it smaller? and what benifit would it serve? Thx

    Add the following to the pstrip.ini file:

    [Latency]
    Enable=1
    0525102B=128

    0525 is the device ID for a G400, 102B is the vendor ID for Matrox. Latency must be a multiple of 8, no lower than 32 and no higher than 248.

      do I have to use powerstrip to adjust the latency?

        why would you want to alter this value and what exactly does it do? Does pci latency do anything to AGP?

          Adj. PCI Latency in Powerstrip *.ini

          Hi:

          I'm playing around with tweaking my G400Max and want to adjust the PCI latency (which is currently 64) . I can't change the setting in BIOS but I remember a few years back that I was able to change it by entering certain values in the powerstrip *.ini. I don't suppose anyone has this info for me?

          Thanks,

            The PCI latency timer sets the time that each device gets on the bus before it has to release. The higher the number the more time it gets, so it can make some of your peripherals faster, but at the same time it can slow other devices down because they have to wait. AGP shares that resource as well. To maintain the best perf/compatibility the default setting is 32.

              Hi:

              Thanks for the replies. At first I wanted to change the latency of the G400 to make it less of a resource hog because of problems I was having with a other PCI cards(none of which were sharing IRQ's). But now I think I will try raising the latency of the other cards instead of lowering the G400.

              Thanks again,

              Hank
