    Hello

I was wondering if anyone could tell me the kind of benchmark I 'should' be getting from a set-up like my own?

    K7 500
    128Mb RAM
    UDMA 66 HD 13Gb 5,200rpm
    G400 MAX
    SB 128 Sound card

    Thanks a lot

      Hello

Thanks very much for your benchmark scores.
How did you Overclock your K7 500 to 700?
I thought you had to solder a load of stuff to do that. my motherboard is a MSI 6167

If anyone else has a similar system with a K7 500 could you post your scores it would be a big help to me

      Thanks a lot

          Alessandro:

You need to solder or get a overclock with dipswitch addon card to athlons internal connector. You can't modify athlons multiplyer or voltage with bios settings, you can modify bus speeds, but 103MHz bus speed is about the maximum you can get it running with. So you need to alter the multiplyers.. this fact is reported all around the internet...

            Alessandro,
Yes that is a fact of life with current Athlon MoBos. Futur ones are supposed to 'correct' this. Much easy for the Intel croud at the moment, hun?

I have a special tool that allows me to move the resistors around. I changed the resistors so that it runs at 700. I then raised the FSB to 107. If anybody is interested I can O/C yours.

                        HI pple!
I am curious to know what is that "eclipse" program you people are referring to?
                        Izzit used for overclocking Athlon?
May I ask if hardware overclocking is better or software overclocking?
My heatsink it very think, but only has on fan, average 5500 rpm. May I know if I overclock to 750 from 500, will it fry?

                        Thanks

Top_Cat, you mean 7200 instead of "5200" rpm right?

junkal, The "Eclipse" is a hardware OC device, there is no software involved. If you wish to OC an an Athlon then my first suggestion is get yourself a really good HS/Fan combo. I'm using the Globalwin FKK32. Note the size specs do not include the fans... those are 80x80x25mm each and also the total air delivered is 52 cfm. The only other that I'd reccommend (and must be modified depending on which slotA board used) is the Alpha.

                            With my Athlon 500@750MHz / K7M mobo / G400 Max, 128MB RAM, etc, I get

                            3D Marks: 3404
                            CPU Speed: 193

                              Junkal

You could do 650 with your heatsink. 700 would be pushing it. 750 needs more cooling.
I have a generic two fan heatsink and it does 700 with no problem, and 750 is pushing it. The CPU is running at temp higher than what I like to run it at. But it is doing OK to I get a Better one.

Here is a picture of the heatsink I am using.
