  • PLEASE HELP!

I really need a guru on this one. HELP! My G400 sucks. I’ve tried everything I can think of.
My motherboard is a SHUTTLE SPACEWALKER 591P.

I’ve tried it with AGP 1x and 2x. Video card with interrupt and without. My current setting are below as my 99Mark99 scores (You can see they suck). If anyone can help I would appreciate it so much! When I win the Lottery, I’ll give you a brand new computer of your choice. (I think I’ll buy a Voodoo 3500 for myself  &#61516 .

I realize that this is a large cry for help and I have probably included too much information, but I’m desperate. I’m getting 13 FPS in Unreal Tournament and I am at the end of my rope. Below are my CMOS settings and Windows 98 SE system report. Any help would be appreciated.

Dunno, after reading those specs I can't even remeber my own name

Serious now - his 1581.29 3DMarks at 800x600x16 seem pretty dull indeed. Maybe one of the K6 boys can blink in.

            Sorry Guys,

I know I might have overkilled on the specs but my FPS in just about any game is terrible. Even if I take UT down to the lowest resolution, the FPS stay the same. Makes me think that it's something in the bios that slowing the G400 down no matter what the resolution is set to.

            Sorry again for the overkill.

                iquest,

I have a very simple solution, go into your motherboard's bios and enable the L2 cache pipeline.

                Rags

Sorry, I went through your post and noticed that the L2 cache isn't recognized by 3dmark, but you have your external cache enabled, what you need to try then is change these settings:

Cache Rd+CPU Wt Pipeline : Disabled
                Read Around write : Enabled
Change the first one to enabled and the second one to disabled.

i dunno but i have heard that the g400 doesn't like having a modest chip behind it but demands a few more mhz. When i first read about the g400 they said that the slower the cpu the more behind the g400 got with regard to other cards. Only when the cpu started to break the 500mhz range did the g400 start to smash the others. i hope i am wrong but you might find that the card does not want to go any higher than what you already have until you get a 450 cpu or more.

Well, 3dmark99max does not spot the L2 cache if it is external, so I do not think that this is a problem. The scores are typical if you are running with bus mastering disabled or have not installed the AGP miniport driver from VIA. BTW, you may have to install the miniport in non-turbo (1x) mode if you have stability problems.

The former can be checked in display properties, the latter should be obvious, you should know whether you have installed it or not. But you can also check it with a program like PCILIST (after running a 3d application check if the AGP VGA card shows AGP enabled or not), which you can get from the download section of MURC.

                      M.

Why don't you visit my pages (address in profile) for some remarks on setting the BIOS options.

Also, set the memory timing to Fast or Turbo. This gives up to 30% performance increase in graphics app.

Also, please edit your message and delete all the infor on COM ports, addresses etc., which are totally irrelevant to your problem but take a long time to load.
