  • G200 DVD vs G400 DVD

Any difference in DVD playback between the G200 and G400?

Running a Matrox G200 on a P2-266 / 256MB RAM (Cinemaster 99) and it's absolutely smooth -- no glitches, skips, nothing. Handles dozens of DVDs from Matrix to Das Boot.

Then you are doing very well. When I had a G200 on my (then) k6-2-400 I had to resort to a hardware accelerator as all movies were jerky. Performance with a G400 (h/w accelerator sold with G200) was better, but I needed to change to a k6-2-450 before things became silky smooth.

I had nearly the same results as tony. I do like the G400's picture better.

I was very pleased with my G200 for DVD, with PowerDVD software. Of course, that was the only thing that I could do though. Any other use of the PC would chunk the DVD playback.

Now, with the G400, I can play my DVD on my TV, which I couldn't do with my G200, and do other stuff (nothing too intense of course) on my main monitor without trashing the playback...and the picture, while playing on the monitor, is noticably better than the G200 too...
