open GL performance(G400max)

I purchased the card a few weeks ago and still have problems regarding gameplay speed of open GL games(quake 3 is visually awsome on this card!!!)regardless of the settings being used(resolution,color depth etc..)the game is too choppy(my older voodoo2 sli runs it a lot faster,just doesn't look as good).Now i've tried updated drivers,bios,checked sistem settings(irq's)removed my voodoo 2's,even reformated and reinstalled everything,but no change,the only possibility i can think of is that the turbo GL mini driver isn't somehow being used,is there anyway i can force the game (quake 3,half life)into using the driver.every other feature of the card runs very well(direct 3d,dvd playback,2d etc...)oh by the way i'm using a p3 500 and 256mb of memory,any help would be apreciated,thanks in advance.
