  • DirectX 7 good idea or bad ?

Just upgraded to directx 7 which caused my STB TNT card to give up the ghost. Thought I'd take the opportunity to switch cards and went for a 400 max. I am having the same problems as with my TNT - Games crashing in 3d (FIFA2000), 3d hardware not being recognised (Combat flight sim and others).

Matrox support suggested all was OK with directx7 and the fault was not with their drivers either but I should try moving my other cards arround and fiddling with IRQ.

    Any thoughts help !!

Have you tried formating and reinstalling? With a New system that's how you can see if everything works in the long run it pays off. Besides you should restart your system at least every 6 months to clean everything up.

Or you could go to www.tweak3d.net and check out their systemcleanup guide!!! That will save you the trouble of formating your c: drive!

I tried DX7 with the 5.30 drivers and it was a big mistake. Constantly produced G400.dll errors in D3D. Reinstall my system twice before I learned my lesson. Now I'm holding out till I know the drivers are compatible.

          YetToBeConvinced,

When your 3D hardware is not detected are you in 24bit mode? 3D dosen't work in 24bit color debth. Try 16 or 32bit.
