  • How do you move around IRQ's???

I am becoming very pissed at my current situation. I recently disabled my onboard Serial/Parallel connectors on my motherboard to free up some resources. This changed all of my IRQ settings to this:

    0 - System Timer
    1 - MS Natural Keyboard
    2 - Programmable interrupt controller
    3 - free
4 - Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller AND IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
5 - Creative SB16 Emulation (how do I disable this? Don't use DOS games anymore)
6 - Standard Floppy Disk Controller
    7 - free
    8 - System CMOS/real time clock
    9 - free
10 - Adaptec SCSI Controller(2x) AND 3COM Ethercard(3C905B-TX) AND G400 MAX AND IRQ for PCI Steering
    11 - SB Live Value
    12 - free
    13 - Numeric data processor
14 - Intel PCI Bus Master IDE Controller AND Primary IDE controller
15 - Intel PCI Bus Master IDE Controller AND Secondary IDE Contoller

I know I have free ones, and I am trying to move them around, but my mobo doesn't have many options for doing so. Is there a way in windows to move around IRQ's?
Oh yeah, my system is as follows:

    Matrox G400 MAX (5.30 drivers and bios stock(it says 1.3 - 20)
    Tyan Thunder 100 BX w/SCSI (bios 1.16A)
    SB Live! Value
    Acer 40X CD ROM
    Zip 100 internal
    3COM Fast Etherlink Card (3C905B-TX)

Grr... could someone help me out? Thanks.

btw, this wouldn't have bothered me except for the fact that when I play any game now, I crash hard after some time. Doesn't matter whether or not it is D3D or OpenGL.

3 cards on IRQ 10. I would go read this post http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/Forum5/HTML/006091.html for forcing windows to use IRQ's. I don't want to repeat something that Jorden explained very well how to do. If this doesn't solve it then more details are needed. What apps are running in the background? You stated that when you "now" play a game it crashes. Which I assume means that you it didn't crash previously to something. What has changed since bc (before crash) to present?

Thanks mj12. I managed to move some of that stuff around after disabling PNP OS in bios. Anyone know how to force G400 MAX to IRQ 9? Thanks. All that is on IRQ 10 now is my G400/Ethernet card/and IRQ holder for PCI steering. So far, no more lockups, but I would like to get my graphics card onto its own IRQ.
Oh yeah, my original problem was that after I disabled onboard Serial/Parallel on my mother board, the IRQ's were switched around to what I posted. This caused lockups. (it is late, forgive the omissions. heh )

np, try this to get g400 on 9. Make sure there are no PCI devices plugged into pci slot1 then, go to the PNP/PCI Config section of your Bios

          PNP/PCI Configuraion
          -----------------------------
          PNP OS Installed: No
          Force Update ESCD: Disable
          Resources Controlled By: Auto
          Assign IRQ For VGA: Enable
Assign IRQ for USB: Enable (if you are using any USB devices otherwise disable)

          PIRQ-1 Use IRQ No: 9
          PIRQ-2 Use IRQ No: Auto
          PIRQ-3 Use IRQ No: Auto
          PIRQ-4 Use IRQ No: Auto

mj12 - I think the "Resouces Controlled by" setting needs to be set to "Manual" to allow individual IRQ assignments.

Thanks guys. mj12, my bios is AMI and I didn't see anything like that. Oh well, I'll have a look again. Thanks.

Sharing an IRQ with only with an ethernet card generally doesn't cause any problems with a G400. If its working well that way, leave it alone and enjoy!

                  Coming to the rescue again

Grail, I'll hack into the internet again and go look for the manual of your BIOS

                  Will be back

                  Jorden.

                    And back already.

Go to the Advanced/Plug and Play Setup menu.

There you should look for PCI Slot n IRQ Priority.
Set this to 9 for Slot1 (the slot next to your AGP slot, and it should be free)
Save changes and reboot into Windows. If the PnP OS is disabled in the BIOS, Windows will put your G400 on IRQ9.

                    Home free

                    Jorden.
