  • WARNING about the BETA driver!

The beta driver for Win2000 rendered my setup to unusable state. I have G200 on Asus P5A.

First I got only black screen when restarting proceeded to the point when the first window is supposed to appear.
I was able to get it running with "Enable VGA mode" but when I tried to restart it again normally, I got BSOD with KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED.

Even the "Safe Mode" doesn't seem to work anymore.

This new driver is sure the best thing from Matrox after m3d.

No, that's the prob with ALPHAs. It find it inappropriate from a PUBLIC BETA to render whole system unusable.
Artifacts in Quake would do but this..

Actually, I find the drivers quite stable, and my system is pretty usable. I haven't experienced any of the BSOD issues that you've had. I do have arctifacts in Quake2 though..

Well, a beta driver for a beta os..... One can hardly demand the ultimate stability?

Buuri, is your BIOS of the P5A up to date?? So it can handle Win2K instructions??

I thought a beta was a testing program not the final product. It's been released to find out on what systems and circumstances it does crash so users can report the problems back.
Since it's public beta it's one step closer to a final release but they don't expect it to be 100%. Okay for Microsoft 60% stable. If it gets to 80% they can ship it out.

Good news, I was able to restart the bloody thing with "Enable VGA" and re-install the original driver supplied by Microsoft.

So I'm back where I started but with one more lesson learned

I just HAD TO try it again and this time I got IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.
Well, back to the drawing board..

                      Hi all

Does anybody know if the current Video Tools will work with the new drivers?

It might be a beta driver on a beta OS , but since so many people are having similar problems with it , maybe it would be nice to hear from matrox tech support on whether or not their looking into it or if they have any short term solutions ? Matrox, are you reading this ? ..Rob_b
