  • G400 MAX causing hard reset!

I have changed irq's and tryed almost everything. But when I start a 3d or other graphical program, some times the machine just resets. On average this happens once every 10 hours of use, but its not linked to heat or the amount of time the machine has been on.

Im absolutedly at a dead end here. This never happened with my G200!!!

    I have a pIII 500mhz, 128mb ram, abibx6 2.0 motherboard.

Have you tried reseating all the cards and memory?

      Hi DukeP,

Make sure that your cards are fully seated and your memory is full seated (as suggested by Richie). If you have already done this, try forcing AGP 1X using the registry hacks found on the MURC website and let us know.

        Been There done that!

I actually found that my g400 was NOT firmly in place. I then remebered reading a thread somewhere about placing a spacer between the cabinet and the bent pice of metal and then screwing it tight. That help in keeping the card in place, unfortunately it did not help my reset problem!

I can text and type forever, the machine can have been turned on for 48 hoursd straight. The thing that causes thereset is when i START a gfx using program. Even winamps modules can make the machine reset. Insert cd, whatch winamp start, then as the 3d-equalizer module kicks ind, blink, beep....
        :-(

Hmmm... How about cleaning the contacts on the cards/memory etc? Sometimes greasy fingerprints can cause problems...

Have you tried another motherboard as well? Maybe the AGP socket has a problem.

          Cheers,

          Richie

Thanx, all, I have tried cleaning the card. Unfortunately I have no other motherboard "laying around" at the moment ;-)

I will try if I can get on of my friends to install my g00, but since the error does not appear just whenever i want it to, its gonna be a damm long time without a motherboard!!!!

Are you overclocking your system??? This also sounds like an L2 cache problem.

                I have tried all speeds.

I can measure no difference in the amounts of resets between 450mhz and 600 mhz.

It DOES cause hard resets at 450mhz.

These are my IRQ's. I have disable my com ports, since 1) I had no use for them, and 2) I thought that the problems I had was caused by the g400 sharing irq 11.

So, are you actually running a P3-450 in your system???

Is your L2 cache set at default??? If it is try setting it to 8 instead.

Also try forcing your G400 to IRQ 9.

BTW, you didn't say whether or not you tried forcing AGP1X or what your AGP aperture size, and AGP divider is set to.

Thanks again, this feels almost like chatting!

I have not changed core voltage. The p3 I have is the 600 mhz version locked at 4.5 Ur right, I have overcloked it a bit. No longer though, I've had it at 450 for a small week now, no difference.

I know the problems not related to heat, I have a psu that pushes air out at the top, and a LARGE fan blowing in at the bottom. My cpu is at 32 degrees celcius(@504mhz), my motherboard is at 28 degrees.

ALBPM, whats with the level 2 cache?
                        Its set at default...
I have not yet tried to force agpx1. I thought that This was a long gone chapter since I moved from g200 to g400

How do I FORCE irq 9?
And what could be the problems with irq4?
(I thought I once read something about irq9 being used to control irq's 10-15, or am I completely wrong here?)

                        Again, thanx!
